Men's Soccer Plays Northeastern to 2-2 Draw in CAA Action

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer seniors Antonio Bustamante and Ryder Bell scored goals in each half as the Tribe played Northeastern to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening at Martin Family Stadium. The Green and Gold (2-6-2, 0-1-2 CAA) led at the half following Bustamante's first-half free kick, but needed Bell's individual effort in the 63rd minute to answer Northeastern's (3-5-1, 1-1-1 CAA) two goals in a six-minute stretch to start the second half to forge the tie.

Junior Julian Ngoh earned W&M a golden chance midway through the opening half and Bustamante cashed it in. Nogh and freshman Devin McCarthy played a beautiful give-and-go at the top of the box, but a Northeastern defender clipped the junior resulting in a dangerous free kick. Inside the C at the top of the 18, Bustamante took the chance and sent it over the top of the wall into the left side of the net to put W&M on top in the 22nd minute. The goal moved Bustamante into a tie for 10th on the Tribe's career list.

Northeastern scored twice in a 5:22 span in the second half to take the lead. Just under 10 minutes into the second frame, the Huskies pulled even on an own goal. Tyler Welch worked his way to the left endline and sent a cross toward the six that was deflected inside the near post by a Tribe defender.

In the 61st minute, Martin Nygaard converted a Huskies' free kick to put the visitors on top. From the top right corner of 18-yard box, Nygaard's shot deflected off the left side of the Tribe wall and went up and over senior goalkeeper Sam Onyeador into top right corner of the frame.

The Tribe answered less than three minutes later with Bell enjoying his return to the lineup. The Green and Gold striker gained space down the left flank thanks to a pass from freshman James Bradley. Bell cut back along the left side of the 18 and curled a shot inside the right post from 15 yards out to pull W&M even at two.
