WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Four different players scored as the William & Mary men's soccer team closed the regular season in style with a 4-1 thumping of Colonial Athletic Association foe Charleston on Tuesday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Fifth-year senior
Graham Guidry and junior
Reeves Trott found the back of the net in the opening half, while junior
Tanner Shane and senior
Remi Frost each scored their first career goals as the Tribe (5-9-2, 3-3-2 CAA) tallied a season-high four markers in the victory.
W&M opened its first-half onslaught after being awarded a penalty kick in the match's opening 10 minutes. Guidry played a side-footed through ball into the penalty area to freshman
John Eberle, but the rookie was pulled down from behind by a CofC defender. Guidry stepped to the spot in buried the spot kick to give the Tribe the early lead.
W&M added two goals less than two minutes apart to increase the margin in 3-0 before the half. In the 34th minute, freshman
James Bradley sent a corner kick into the middle of the box that found the head of sophomore
Sam Golan. Golan directed the ball to the top of the area where Shane volleyed a shot into the right side of the net. Just 96 seconds later, W&M added its third tally of the opening frame. Senior
Marcel Berry started the play up the left flank where he found junior
Lee Hogge. The Tribe reserve midfielder sent a cross into the box, and junior
Reeves Trott one-timed it into the left side of the goal from 10 yards out.
The Tribe picked up where it left off in the first half, scoring just under five minutes into the second stanza. Again Berry started the offense as he collected a CofC clearance and fed classmate
Remi Frost with a through ball. One-on-one with the keeper, Frost slotted a low shot past the charging keeper to push the lead to 4-0.
Charleston added a late goal in the 82nd minute on a nice individual effort from Matt Nozedar for the final margin. Nozedar beat his defender and bent a shot from 35-yards out inside the left post to get the Cougars on the board.
