WILMINGTON, N.C. – Playing shorthanded, the William & Mary men's soccer team turned in a strong performance, but fell in double overtime, 2-1, at No. 10-ranked UNCW on Saturday night. Freshman
Devin McCarthy gave the Tribe (4-9-2, 2-3-2 CAA) a halftime lead with his second goal of the season, but the Seahawks (12-3-2, 5-0-2 CAA) pulled even with a second-half penalty kick and scored the game-winner off a free kick in the 102nd minute.
Despite the loss, W&M clinched a spot in the CAA Championship thanks to Hofstra's 2-0 victory over Charleston earlier on Saturday. The Tribe will make its 25th overall CAA Tournament appearance and third straight. The Green and Gold will be either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the tournament and travel to either No. 3 seed Hofstra or No. 4 seed Delaware on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Ryder Bell limited to just 10 first-half minutes, the Tribe played even with the top-10 ranked Seahawks. The Green and Gold took the lead in the 37th minute as McCarthy made an instant impact after coming off the bench. Just 1:12 after coming on as a reserve, the Green and Gold rookie scored into an open net from 13 yards out.
The Seahawks took the opening three shots of the second half, before finally pulling even. UNCW tied it at one on a David Lozano penalty kick in the 67th minute.
W&M had the final three chances in regulation, but only
James Bradley's chance in the 88th minute was on frame and it was a stopped by UNCW GK Ryan Cretens. The Tribe generated the only two chances in the first OT period. Both came off corner kicks, but senior

The Seahawks found the winner just two minutes into the second OT period. Phillips Goodrum knocked in a Ben Davidson free kick to give the home team a 2-1 victory.
