Graham Guidry, Cole Smith Help Men's Soccer Slay Dragons on Homecoming

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Graham Guidry and junior Cole Smith scored first-half goals as the William & Mary men's soccer team won its second-straight Colonial Athletic Association match downing Drexel, 2-1, on Homecoming. Smith scored his first career goal in the 27th to give W&M (4-8-2, 2-2-2 CAA) the early lead, and Guidry answered a Dragons (8-5-3, 2-5-1 CAA) equalizer with the winner just before halftime. W&M secured a key three points to move up to fifth in the CAA standings and in position for the league tournament bid.

W&M struck first on Smith's first career marker midway through the opening half. After senior Marcel Berry pressured the ball away from Drexel, senior Antonio Bustamante possessed the ball in the midfield near the center stripe. As he turned up field, the All-American threaded a pass through the Drexel defense, setting Smith free. The junior strike drew the Drexel goalkeeper out and tucked it home inside the right post from 12 yards out.

Drexel answered on a Kwesi Allen header from a set piece 10 minutes later, but the Tribe took the lead to the locker room with just 1:16 remaining in the half. Berry and junior Julian Ngoh combined up the left flank, and Ngoh sent a cross from the endline to the six. Guidry collected the pass, spun and poked it home past a Drexel goalkeeper for his fourth career game-winner.
