Seniors Become Winningest Class in School History With Furious Second Half Comeback Against Charleston

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team outscored the College of Charleston 44-25 in the second half to erase a six-point halftime deficit, and pick up a 79-66 victory at Kaplan Arena on Friday night. With the win, the Tribe improves to 13-6, 4-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Cougars drop to 5-15, 1-8 in league action.
 
William & Mary opened the game with a 7-0 run to take the lead by the same the score right out of the gates. Senior Jenna Green sandwiched five points around a junior Bianca Boggs lay-up to give the Tribe the cushion just 1:20 into the contest. The Tribe grew its lead to seven points, twice, and eight points, once, but the Cougars responded to make it a two-point game at the end of one.
 
Charleston opened the second quarter with a triple to take its first lead, before using a quick 6-0 spurt to take a 30-24 lead with 4:49 left in the half. Darien Huff opened the scoring with a jumper, before Schiclasia Brown hit a lay-up and Bri Sullivan added a jumper to end the run.
 
The Tribe opened the second half with a 10-2 advantage to regain the lead, which it wouldn't relinquish. Sophomore Nari Garner opened the scoring with a triple, before classmate Victoria Reynolds tied the game with a lay-up, and Boggs added one of her own to give the Tribe the advantage. After the Cougars tied the game at 47-47, Boggs canned a 3-pointer to give W&M a 50-47 advantage with 3:46 left in the third quarter.
 
Leading by five, W&M used an 8-0 run at the beginning of the fourth period to put the game away. Green opened the spurt with a jumper, before Boggs and Garner canned back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 64-51 with 7:08 left.

Individual Highlights
Junior Bianca Boggs scored a game-high 26 points to lead five Tribe players in double-figures. The junior stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, seven steals, six assists, and two blocked shots. Sophomore Victoria Reynolds led a trio of Tribe players with double-doubles finishing with 15 points, a career-high 18 rebounds, two assists, a block, and four steals. Senior Abby Rendle just missed a triple-double with 12 points, a school and CAA record 11 blocks, and nine rebounds, while classmate Jenna Green finished with 10 points, 11 dimes, and four rebounds. Sophomore Nari Garner was the final Tribe player in double-figures with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal. 
 
Calin Dorsey led the way for the Cougars scoring a career-high 17 points, including 14 points in the first half. Tanisha Brown added a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Bri Sullivan scored 14 points off the bench, while Deja Ford chipped in 11 to round out the Cougars' double-figure scorers.
 
Inside the Numbers
-W&M finished the game shooting 44-percent (31-for-70) from the field, including 15-of-31 (48.3-percent) in its second half run.
 
- On the flip side, W&M limited the Cougars to just 27-of-72 (38-percent) from the field in the contest.
 
- For the second straight game W&M won the battle of glass and out rebounded the Cougars, 47-43. The Tribe is now 4-2 when winning the rebounding battle.
 
-The Tribe finished the game handing out 24 assists on its 31 made baskets while only turning the ball over 15 times.
 
-The Green and Gold forced Charleston into 16 miscues including getting its hands on 13 steals.
 
 Notes
The senior class – Jeanne Gaumont, Green, and Rendle- become the winningest class in school history with their 63rd win … Sophomore Nari Garner made her first career start in the contest … W&M had three-players finish double-doubles, which is the second-time this season the Tribe has had at least two players finish with double-doubles (Fairfield 11/14)  …  For the 10th straight game junior Bianca Boggs finished with double-digit points …  It was the 17th time this season, and 34th time in her career … It was her fifth 20-point game of the season and her career … Her seven steals are tied for the 11th most in single-game school history … Sophomore Victoria Reynolds had her first career-double-double with 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds … The 18-boards were the most by a Tribe player this season and the 12th most in single-game history… It was her third 10-rebound game, and her 11th double-digit point total of the season … It was the 15th time in Reynolds' career that she scored in double-figures … Senior Jenna Green notched her third double-double of the season and of her career with 10 points and 11 assists … It was the 14th time this season she has had double-figure points, and third time this year she has had double-digit dimes … It was the 26th time in her Tribe career she scored in double-figures … Green moved into second place all-time in assists and now has 483 career assists, needing just 21 more to set the school record …  Classmate Abby Rendle set a school and CAA record with 11 blocks … She finished in double-figures for the 15th time this season and the 51st time in her Tribe career … Rendle now has 11 career double-doubles, including five this season … The Reston, Virginia native now has 991 points and needs just nine more to score her 1,000th career point … Rendle grew her CAA and school record blocks to 321 … Garner added fifth double-digit performance of the season and her career … The Tribe's 17 blocks are a new single-game record and tie the CAA's record … W&M's 24 assists are good for the 11th best in Tribe history … W&M now leads the series 13-7 against Charleston, including a 9-5 record in Williamsburg.
