BOSTON, Mass. – The William & Mary women's basketball team couldn't shake off a cold shooting day, and fell 64-46 at Northeastern on Sunday afternoon. With the decision the Tribe falls to 12-6, 3-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Huskies improve to 9-9, 4-3 in league action.
Northeastern stormed out of the gates with a 12-2 run to take the lead by the same score with 4:06 left in the opening quarter. Gabby Giacone opened the scoring with a lay-up, before Shannon Todd hit a jumper, and Lauren Lassister added a lay-up. After junior
Bianca Boggs got the Tribe on the board, the Huskies responded with a basket from Claudia Ortiz and four from Giacone.
Trialing by 12, W&M used a 9-2 run to cut the lead to five late in the half. Freshman
Nyla Pollard started the run with a triple, before Boggs added a lay-up. After a NU bucket, senior
Jenna Green went coast-to-coast, and freshman
Gabby Rogers had a putback to cut the lead to 28-23. However, Northeastern closed the half with the final five points, including a half-court heave at the buzzer from Todd to make it 33-23 at the break.
W&M cut the lead into to single-digits three times in the second half, but the Huskies used a 6-0 run to regain a double-digit lead they wouldn't relinquish with 2:12 left in the third quarter. Oritz accounted for all six points during the NU run.

Individual Leaders
For the 10th time this season, junior
Bianca Boggs led the Tribe offensively, finishing with a team-high 15 points. Sophomore
Victoria Reynolds was the only other Tribe player in double-figures with 11 points. Senior
Abby Rendle grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for W&M.
Claudia Oritiz led all scorers with 19 points and was one of three Northeastern players in double-figures. She added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Gabby Giacone chipped in a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals. Jess Genco was the final Huskie in double-figures with 11 points and seven assists.
Inside the Numbers
- W&M shot a season-low 31-percent (18-of-58) from the floor in the game.
- The Tribe won the rebounding battle, 44-39. It was just the fifth time this season, W&M won the battle of the glass.
- The Green and Gold had a season-low eight assists, while committing 22 turnovers.

What's Ahead
W&M returns to Williamsburg as it opens a three-game homestand with a pair of games next weekend. The Tribe welcomes the College of Charleston on Friday, Jan. 26, before hosting Hofstra on Sunday, Jan. 28. Tipoffs are set for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
