Women's Soccer Battles Charleston to Scoreless Draw

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's soccer team battled Colonial Athletic Association rival College of Charleston to a scoreless draw at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Thursday night. With the tie, the Tribe's record is now 4-7-1, 0-2-1 in CAA play, while the Cougars sit 5-4-1, 0-1-1 in league action.

The match was even across the board as both teams's fired 15 shots apiece. The biggest discrepancy in the stats was the Tribe took 12 corner kicks to the Cougars just three.

W&M controlled the play in the second half, but couldn't find a winner in regulation. The Tribe's best two chances came in the 49th and 54th minute of the match. The first shot came when senior Sami Grasso turned one on frame, but Genevieve Henderson was there for the stop. The second was classmate Rachel Moore, who fired a shot before she was taken out by a defender, but again Henderson made the save.

Charleston controlled the two extra sessions in terms of shots taking five of the seven chances in overtime. The only shot that came on frame was from Katrina Koomen from distance, but redshirt senior goalkeeper Grace Smith was there for the stop.

Notes
Freshman Alex Kuhnle made her first career start for the Green and Gold in the contest … It was the fifth time in the last six games a Tribe player has earned her first career start … Senior Grace Smith tied a season-high with six saves in the contest, earning her first shutout of the season … It was the redshirt senior's fifth clean sheet of her career … It was the Tribe's first overtime match of the season, and the first since W&M took UNCW to overtime on Oct. 30, 2016 in the CAA Quarterfinals. W&M won that match in PK's … The Tribe has not scored a goal in the last 610 minutes of action … The result snaps the Green and Gold's seven-game skid, which was tied for the longest in school history … However, the 2001 team that lost seven in a row qualified for the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament … It was the second straight tie in the series between W&M and Charleston … The Tribe is unbeaten against the Cougars all-time, 3-0-2.
