WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – An attempt to climb out of a 2-0 hole came up short as the William & Mary volleyball team was topped by unbeaten in-state rival James Madison, 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16), on Saturday evening in Kaplan Arena. The Tribe (2-13, 0-2 CAA) was held to a .106 attack percentage by the Dukes' (10-0, 1-0 CAA) defense in the Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
Senior
Sydney Biniak lead the Green and Gold with 14 kills, while junior
Heather Pippus and sophomore
Casey Foote added nine and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore
Autumn Brenner lead the team with 19 assists, and junior
Katie Kemp added 18 more.
After JMU claimed the first two periods, the Tribe started the third set with a great response by grabbing a 5-0 lead. The rest of the match was very even, with neither team taking a large edge. A clutch kill by Pippus broke a 21-21 tie, and then another kill by Pippus closed the frame at 25-21.
The fourth and final set began very closely, with W&M showing a valiant effort. However, the Dukes registered a .429 attack percentage in the frame by racking up 14 kills in 28 attempts with two errors to close out strong.

Julia Brown and Pippus paced the blocking effort with a total of two apiece.

Katie Turner chipped in a team-high 13 digs and classmate
Lauren Moussaid contributed 11 more. Moussaid has surpassed 10-plus digs in five consecutive matches.
- Biniak crushed eight of her 14 kills during the fourth set.
- Brown and freshman
Kate Dedrick contributed to the offensive effort with six kills apiece.
- The Dukes recorded a .400-plus hitting efficiency in both the first and fourth stanza.
- JMU's Bryn Recker led all player with 15 kills and Tilbe Yaglioglu dealt a match-high 41 assists.
