WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior
Sydney Biniak registered double-figure kills for the second time this season with 11 and freshman
Kate Dedrick added nine more, but the William & Mary volleyball team was edged by Morehead State, 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-14), in its home opener on Friday evening. With the setback, the Tribe falls to 1-4 and the Eagles advance to 4-2.
Dedrick finished with a .292 attack percentage as she committed just two errors in 24 attempts. Junior
Katie Kemp was the second player on the team to register a double-double this year courtesy of 13 assists and 10 digs. Rookie
Katie Turner led the team with 13 digs, while classmate
Lauren Moussaid chipped in eight digs to go along with five kills.
The Eagles' offense was a slow build as the squad increased its efficiency as the contest progressed. MSU hammered 17 kills in the first set, but also committed a game-high nine errors for a .170 hitting percentage. The Eagles registered a .263 hitting percentage in the second set, and went on to post a .312 attack rate with just three errors during the third frame.
The Tribe's best effort occurred in the second set. W&M matched MSU with 16 kills in 36 attempts, resulting in a .306 hitting clip. The period proved to be the turning point as both teams battled hard to either maintain or swing momentum. Down the stretch, an Eagles' error and spikes from sophomore
Casey Foote and Moussaid gave the Tribe a 23-21 edge. However, MSU responded with four unanswered points to clinch the set.

Quotable
"I'm proud of this team for the fact that they are battling and were in each of the sets. We just need to do a better job of communicating and taking care of the little things. I think we had moments of brilliance and then we had moments where we allow a run of points. We need to build on the moments of brilliance and stop the run of points sooner. We have a lot of new people on the court and I think we are still getting to know each other and that is totally normal. I have no doubt we will be just fine and will continue to grow and learn. This is a great team to coach and I look forward to us rebounding tomorrow by giving it all we've got and competing." – Head Coach
