HARRISONBURG, Va. (April 9, 2017)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at No. 18 James Madison, 11-5, on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened
James Madison (9-5, 3-0) opened the game with six unanswered goals and maintained a lead of at least five goals the rest of the way en route to earning the league victory.
Standout Performances
Senior
Lindsey Jenks led the Tribe (3-10, 0-2) with two goals, while senior
Abby Junior, junior
Meaghan Brophy and sophomore
Holly Hager all found the back of the cage. Junior added three caused turnovers, two ground balls and a draw control, while Hager's stat line included two draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Freshman goalie
Elsa Rall came off the bench to allow just seven goals in 52:20 and totaled eight saves.
Inside the Numbers
JMU outshot W&M, 28-21, and held advantages in draw controls (11-7) and ground balls (24-23). Additionally, the Dukes committed six fewer turnovers (23-17).
The Opposition
Katie Kerrigan led JMU with six points (1g, 5a), while Margaret Fogarty and Maddie McDaniel totaled three goals apiece. Haley Warden added a game-high five caused turnovers, while Corinne Schmidt added a game-high five ground balls.

W&M held JMU to just one goal during a span of 30:57 but was unable to narrow the margin to less than five after falling behind 8-1 to start the contest … Both teams scored three goals in the second half … W&M outshot JMU in the final 30 minutes (14-12) and held edges in draw controls (4-3) and ground balls (10-9) … The matchup marked W&M's second consecutive game against a top-20 team, as it was edged at No. 14 Towson, 14-11, in its league opener on Friday … Jenks had her streak of four consecutive hat tricks snapped … JMU now leads the all-time series, 33-32-1, and has won the last 10 meetings.
