WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 14, 2017)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to Delaware, 11-2, in its conference home opener at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Friday evening.
How it Happened
W&M (3-11, 0-3) got on the scoreboard first with a goal by senior
Lindsey Jenks just 30 seconds into the contest but was outscored 11-1 during the remainder of the game.
The Tribe held the Blue Hens (7-5, 2-0) scoreless for a stretch of 36:34 but was unable to narrow the margin to less than six goals in the second half.
Standout Performances
Jenks and freshman
Nikky Price both recorded goals for the Tribe, while senior
Abby Junior totaled five caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls.
Sophomore
Holly Hager added four caused turnovers, four ground balls and a draw control.
Freshman goalie
Elsa Rall came off the bench to allow just four goals in 46:35 and totaled four saves.
Inside the Numbers
W&M held an 8-7 edge in draw controls, but Delaware outshot the Tribe, 23-13, and totaled eight more ground balls (33-25). Additionally, the Blue Hens committed two fewer turnovers (29-27).
The Opposition
Becky Gohsler totaled a game-high five points (4g, 1a) with five draw controls, while Jamie Schwartz and Coley Ricci added two goals apiece. Ricci also provided five caused turnovers. Goalie Taylor Carpentier posted eight saves and allowed just two goals.

Junior now has 39 caused turnovers this spring – a figure that ranks tied for fourth on W&M's single-season list and just six shy of the school record (45) set by Grace Golden in 2011 … Junior's career total increased to 119, which ranks fourth all-time at W&M and is just 15 shy of the record (134) set by Sarah Jonson (2008-11) … W&M has allowed just 4.2 goals per game during the second halves of its last five contests … Jenks has scored at least one goal in all but one game this season … UD now holds a narrow 12-11 edge in the all-time series.
