Women's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day with Win over Old Dominion

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The No. 49-ranked William & Mary women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 5-2 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon at the Millie West Tennis Facility. Playing in her final home match for the Green and Gold, senior Marie Faure highlighted the Tribe (10-10) effort as she helped clinch the doubles point with a victory at the top spot, before adding a singles win at No. 2 against the Monarchs (10-8). Juniors Ekaterina Stepanova and Olivia Thaler along with sophomore Lauren Goodman each recorded singles and doubles victories in the W&M triumph.

The two-time reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week, Stepanova and Thaler, won its sixth straight to give W&M the lead in pairs play. The Tribe tandem made quick work of ODU's Adriana Rajkovic and Natalya Malenko, 6-2, to improve to 8-3 at the second spot. Faure and Goodman picked up their 12th win of the year to give the Tribe the doubles point for the fifth time in the last six matches. The Green and Gold pair topped Nataliia Vlasova and Marijana Novakovic, 6-3, to up its record to 9-5 at No. 1.

After an Old Dominion victory at No. 4 singles, Stepanova and Faure quickly put the Tribe on top 3-1 with straight-set wins at the top two singles positions. Stepanova upended Ingrid Vojcinakova, 7-5, 6-3, to improve to 14-11 on the year and 9-7 at the top post. After winning the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, at No. 2, Faure put her foot on the gas in the second, rolling to a 6-1 triumph over Eliska Petrackova. The Tribe senior pushed her team-leading singles win total to 19.

The Monarchs closed the gap to 3-2 with a three-set win at No. 3, before Goodman picked up the clincher for the second time in the last three matches. The Tribe sophomore claimed the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, and then posted her 30th career singles win with a 6-3 victory in the second. Goodman won for the 12th time this season and ninth in dual-match competition.

Thaler rounded out the Tribe win with a three-set triumph at No. 6. The Green and Gold junior won the opening set from Marijana Novakovic, 6-3, before the Monarch player countered with a 6-4 victory in the second. Thaler would not be out done, breaking Novakovic in the 10th game of the third set for a 6-4 win. It was her 10th singles victory of the year.
