Tribe Lax Concludes Road Slate with Setback at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (April 21, 2017)—The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its 2017 road slate with an 18-6 loss at Hofstra on Friday evening.
 
How it Happened
W&M (3-13, 0-5) owned a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the contest, but Hofstra (8-6, 2-3) held the Tribe scoreless for a span of 31:25 and broke the game open with a 14-0 run en route to securing the league victory.
 
W&M outscored Hofstra, 4-3, during the final 24:35 but was unable to get closer than the final margin.
 
Standout Performances
Junior Alexandria Specht came off the bench to lead the Tribe with four goals on just five shots, while freshmen Nikky Price and Annalise Lower also found the back of the cage.
 
Senior Abby Junior totaled a team-high three ground balls, while freshman Meredith Hughes recorded a pair of draw controls.
 
Senior goalie Alex Lista came off the bench and allowed just five goals in the final 31:38 and posted four saves.
 
Inside the Numbers
Hofstra outshot W&M, 34-21, and owned advantages in ground balls (18-8) and draw controls (17-7). Additionally, the Pride committed four fewer turnovers (9-13).
 
The Opposition
Alyssa Parrella totaled a game-high six points (4g, 2a), while Drew Shapiro totaled a game-high five goals. Additionally, Becky Conto led all players with nine draw controls to go with her three goals.
 
Notes
Specht has come off the bench to be W&M's leading scorer during each of the last two games, totaling a career-best four points in both contests … Price has come off the bench to record a goal in three consecutive games … Junior now has 43 caused turnovers this spring – a figure that ranks second on W&M's single-season list and just two shy of the school record (45) set by Grace Golden in 2011 … Junior's career total increased to 123, which ranks third all-time at W&M and is just 11 shy of the record (134) set by Sarah Jonson (2008-11) … W&M has allowed just 4.0 goals per game during the second halves of its last seven contests … Hofstra now controls the all-time series, 11-7, and has won the last four meetings.
