WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 29, 2017)—The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its 2017 campaign with an 18-4 setback against Elon on Senior Day at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
How it Happened
W&M (3-14, 0-6) owned a 3-1 lead nine minutes into the contest, but Elon (12-5, 4-2) held the Tribe scoreless for a span of nearly 47 minutes and broke the game open with a 15-0 run en route to securing the league victory.

Abby Junior became the program's single-season record holder for caused turnovers (46), as she totaled a team-high three CT to go with four draw controls and three ground balls. Junior eclipsed the program's previous mark set by Grace Golden (45) in 2011.

Inside the Numbers
Elon outshot W&M, 38-10, and owned advantages in draw controls (13-12) and ground balls (30-21). Additionally, the Phoenix committed 12 fewer turnovers (25-13).
The Opposition
Abby Godfrey registered a game-high four goals, while Stephanie Asher and Shelby Scanlin both tallied hat tricks with three goals apiece. Melanie McHugh totaled a game-high seven caused turnovers with five ground balls.

In addition to setting W&M's single-season record for caused turnovers, Junior finishes her career ranked third in school history in CT (126), just eight shy of the all-time record set by Sarah Jonson (134) … Junior also ranks 10th all-time in ground balls (153) and 18th in draw controls (78) … W&M recorded 190 caused turnovers in 2017, which ranks as the fourth-best single-season total in school history … The Tribe also registered 212 draw controls, which ranks eight in school history … W&M won seven of the 10 draws in the second half … Elon now holds a narrow 2-1 edge in the all-time series … The win was Elon's first vs. W&M in Williamsburg … The loss was just the third on Senior Day by W&M in its last 13 such contests.
