WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 16, 2017)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to Drexel, 12-8, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened
W&M (3-12, 0-4) held Drexel (7-6, 2-1) to just one goal during a span of nearly 32 minutes and opened the second half with a 6-1 run but was unable to overcome a 9-1 halftime deficit.
Although the Dragons owned a narrow 2-1 lead midway through the opening half, they closed the initial stanza with seven unanswered goals en route to building the eight-goal advantage.
The Tribe narrowed the gap to just three goals multiple times in the second half but was unable to get any closer.
Standout Performances
Junior
Alexandria Specht led the Tribe with a career-high four points (3g, 1a), while five other players scored one goal apiece.
Senior
Abby Junior totaled team highs in ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (3), while sophomore
Holly Hager and junior
Cameron MacDonald added three draw controls apiece.
Freshman goalie
Elsa Rall finished with nine saves.
Inside the Numbers
W&M held advantages in draw controls (12-11) and ground balls (26-24), while Drexel outshot the Tribe (27-26) and committed six fewer turnovers (23-17).
The Opposition
Nadia Pelham-Lacey led Drexel with four goals, while Devin Nihill found the back of the cage three times. Maggie Stetson added six draw controls.

Junior now has 42 caused turnovers this spring – a figure that ranks tied for second on W&M's single-season list and just three shy of the school record (45) set by Grace Golden in 2011 … Junior's career total increased to 122, which ranks tied for third all-time at W&M and is just 12 shy of the record (134) set by Sarah Jonson (2008-11) … W&M has allowed just 4.0 goals per game during the second halves of its last six contests … Despite the loss, W&M leads the all-time series versus Drexel, 12-6.
