Tribe Football Spring Practice Update – April 12

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 12, 2017) – Today's William & Mary football spring practice update features a look at the Tribe's quarterbacks.

All five quarterbacks on the roster have split reps this spring, and it has been extremely competitive among the entire group. The battle will continue through the remainder of spring and into the summer/preseason camp.
 
Brief bios for each of the quarterbacks are listed alphabetically below.
 
QUARTERBACKS
#10 Brandon Battle, So. (6-3, 190)
Excellent passer with a tremendous arm … Good size and can see well in the pocket … Done an excellent job learning the playbook but is seeking to translate that knowledge into productivity on the field … Hard worker … Member of the travel squad for all 11 games last fall but did not see any game action.
#7 Ted Hefter, RFr. (6-0, 190)
Extremely smart, cerebral quarterback … Very poised in the pocket ... Reliable and consistent … Decisive and good decision maker … Reads defenses well … Maximizes ability … Hard worker … Very coachable … Scout team quarterback last season … CAA Academic All-Conference Team selection.
#6 Tommy McKee, Jr. (6-2, 205)
Most experienced returning quarterback on the roster … Backup quarterback the past two seasons … Excellent understanding of the offense … Consistent and reliable … Good athlete who can make plays with his feet … Bright, competitive signal caller who brings a mature approach to the field … Possesses a good feel for the game … Works hard both on the field and in the classroom … Two-time CAA Academic All-Conference Team selection.
#12 Shon Mitchell, Fr. (6-0, 180)
Talented young player who joined the team this spring … One of the most prolific quarterbacks in Virginia High School League (VHSL) history as a record-setting standout who posted a 52-6 record as a four-year starter at Oscar Smith HS (Chesapeake) … Finished his career as the VHSL all-time leader for career passing yards (11,380), touchdown passes (123) and completions (747) … Very accurate passer … Throws a catchable ball … Good mobility … Demonstrated exceptional poise for a freshman quarterback … Good instincts … Extremely coachable and quick learner … Shown significant progress this spring.
#18 Dean Rotger, RFr. (6-0, 190)
Very good athlete … Excellent runner … Tough, competitive signal caller … Good arm … Benefiting from increased reps this spring … Honored as the Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman last fall.
