WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 2, 2017)—The William & Mary
lacrosse team fell to Virginia, 17-9, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Thursday evening.
Although the contest was tied after 30 minutes, 5-5, Virginia (2-2) opened the second half with 10 unanswered goals en route to securing the non-conference victory.

Shannon Quinn and sophomore
Eloise Gagnon led the Tribe (1-4) with two goals apiece, while senior
Lindsey Jenks dished out three assists. Quinn's impressive stat line also included four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Senior
Catherine Shaughnessy matched Quinn's defensive effort with four caused turnovers and three ground balls while adding two draw controls. Junior
Cameron MacDonald also came up big with three draw controls.
Virginia outshot the Tribe, 37-17, and owned advantages in ground balls (32-22) and draw controls (17-10).
Although UVA opened the game with a pair of goals in the first 1:24, the first half was a defensive struggle as the teams traded scores on seven occasions.
Gagnon tallied the Green & Gold's first two goals (21:18, 17:40) to narrow the margin to just one twice.
A goal by junior
Abby Corkum cut the gap to 4-3 with 6:52 showing, and Quinn later answered a UVA goal with two of her own in the final 3:50 of the first half to send the teams to the locker room tied, 5-5.
Although the Cavaliers secured 10 of 11 draws in the first half, W&M found the back of the cage with five of its eight shots and committed three fewer turnovers (12-15).
UVA took control of the contest with a 10-0 run to open the second half.
While W&M closed the game by registering four of the final six scores, it was unable to get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Maggie Jackson led Virginia with six points (3g, 3a), while Kasey Behr added three goals, five caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
The Tribe will return to action when it plays at No. 17 Stanford next Wednesday.
