DAVIDSON, N.C. (Feb. 26, 2017)—The William & Mary lacrosse team was edged at Davidson, 10-9, on Sunday afternoon.

The Tribe (1-3) owned a 9-8 advantage late in the contest, but the Wildcats (2-1) scored twice in the final 2:24 to escape with the win.

The hard-fought matchup featured six ties, and neither team led by more than three goals at any point.

Senior Lindsey Jenks led W&M with four points (3g, 1a), while junior Abby Corkum added three points (2g, 1a).

Senior Abby Junior led the squad defensively with three caused turnovers, four ground balls and three draw controls. Senior goalie Alex Lista totaled eight saves.

The stat line was indicative of a closely contested game, as both teams totaled 19 shots, 17 turnovers and eight saves. Although the Tribe owned a 19-12 advantage in ground balls, Davidson held a 12-9 edge in draw controls – including a 9-4 margin in the second half.

While Davidson jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes, the Tribe responded with three unanswered goals of its own. Junior McKinley Wade (17:21), senior Shannon Quinn (12:56) and Jenks (11:00) all provided scores during the stretch.

The teams combined to score just once during the final 11:00 of the opening half, as Davidson's Sarah Kopp registered the lone goal.

W&M quickly knotted the score at 4-4 on a goal by Corkum on a free position opportunity just 34 seconds into the second stanza, but the Wildcats responded with a pair of goals by Nicole Pettiglio.

However, the Tribe charged back again with another 3-0 run – fueled by two goals from Jenks and one from sophomore Eloise Gagnon – to take its first lead of the game with 16:09 remaining.

The teams traded goals on two more occasions, as sophomore Hannah Ryan's score put the Tribe ahead, 9-8, with 8:48 left. However, Davidson's Annie Brockett tied the game with 2:24 remaining, and Pettiglio tallied the game winner with 1:10 showing. Davidson secured the ensuing draw and was able to run out the clock.

Davidson was led by Pettiglio and Brockett, who recorded four goals apiece.

The Tribe will return to action when it hosts Virginia on Thursday at 7 p.m.
