ELON, N.C. – The William & Mary women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting day as they fell 70-47 at first-place Elon on Sunday afternoon. With the decision, the Tribe falls to 16-10, 6-9 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while Elon improves to 21-6, 13-2 in league action.

Bianca Boggs was the lone Tribe player in double-figures scoring 13 points and adding five rebounds, an assist, a block, and three steals. Senior
Latrice Hunter added seven points, while classmate
Kasey Curtis added a season-high six points. Sophomore
Ali Engelhardt chipped in with a season-high five points and four rebounds.
Elon limited the Tribe to just one field goal in the opening 10 minutes and the Phoenix outscored the Tribe 16-5 in the quarter. Boggs gave the Tribe an early 3-2 lead, but Elon responded with a 14-0 run to build a double-digit lead. Essence Baucom started the spurt with a traditional 3-point play, before Malaya Johnson hit a lay-up, and Lenaria Ruffin connected on two from the line. The run continued as Jenifer Rhodes, Malaya Johnson, and Lauren Brown all hit lay-ups.
In the second quarter, Elon used a 13-2 run to build its largest lead of the half. Baucom started the run with five straight points, before Johnson knocked down two from the line and Shay Burnett had a lay-up. After a Tribe bucket, Burnet and Rhodes each had lay-ups to push the lead to 29-9.
Trailing 37-17, W&M used a 6-0 spurt to cut the game to just 14 points midway through the third quarter. Boggs sandwiched two lay-ups around a pair of free throws from senior
Alexandra Masaquel to make it 37-23 with 6:13 left in the quarter.
However, the Phoenix responded with a 9-0 run to restore a comfortable lead. Madison Wilder completed a traditional 3-point play, before Lexi Mercer, Johnson, and Maddie McCallie all had baskets. The rally pushed the score to 46-23 with 3:11 left in the third.
W&M shot a season-low 25.9-percent (15-for-58) from the field. Despite the poor shooting from the field, the Tribe connected on 14-of-15 (93.3-percent) from the line.
Burnett and Rhodes led four Phoenix in double-figures with 11 points apiece. Burnett added seven rebounds and five assists, while Rhodes chipped in six rebounds. Baucom finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Johnson rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points 12 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
The Green and Gold return to Williamsburg as they host UNCW on Friday, Feb. 24. The game will serve as the Tribe's senior night and will tip at 7 p.m.
