Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day against Hofstra

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary volleyball team fell against Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra, 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18), in its final home match of the season on Sunday afternoon in Kaplan Arena. Prior to the start of the match, the Tribe recognized its senior class of Sara Zumbach, Austyn Ames, and Sydney Biniak for their four years of dedication and commitment to the program.

The Tribe (5-23, 2-12 CAA) jumped out to an early match lead after hitting .343 with 15 kills and just three errors in the first set. The Pride (16-12, 8-6 CAA) opened the frame with a 5-1 advantage, before a kill from freshman Julia Brown helped W&M pull even at 12-all. Brown then highlighted a 4-0 run with a pair of block assists to lift the Green and Gold to a 18-13 lead. Brown continued to impose her will as she spiked set-point and contributed on another block to seal the stanza.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair as Biniak and rookie Denisha Shaw stopped an attack to knot up the period, 10-all. The Pride then gained a 5-point margin, 17-12, after scoring four unanswered points. The Green and Gold answered with a 3-0 spurt to even up the stanza at 21-all. However, Hofstra put together a 4-2 finish to take game two.
