HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Junior
Antonio Bustamante set a school and Colonial Athletic Association Championship record with four goals to lead the William & Mary men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at Hofstra in the league quarterfinals on Saturday night. He scored early in the sixth minute and tallied two in each half to provide W&M (9-4-5) all the cushion it would need in eliminating the Pride (6-6-6) for the second year in a row. Bustamante, who is the first Tribe player in 30 years to score four goals in a game, is just the fifth player in the country to score four goals in a game this season.
The Green and Gold wasted little time jumping on top and Bustamante used his speed in the sixth minute. The junior broke free in midfield, touching around Hofstra goalkeeper Alex Ashton and slotting it home to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Hofstra answered in the 27th minute off a corner kick. John Fraser served the ball to the front side of the six-yard box, where Oscar Ramsay back-heeled it just past senior goalkeeper
Phil Breno inside the near post.
Bustamante scored his 10th goal of the season to put the Tribe back in front in the 36th minute. Sophomore
Julian Ngoh created the chance by beating his defender to the endline and centering a pass to the six. Bustamante was waiting to punch in home and retake the lead, 2-1.
In the 54th minute, sophomore
Reeves Trott earned a foul just outside the top of the 18-yard box. Bustamante took the 22-yard free kick and buried it over top of the wall into the upper left corner for his third goal of the night.
With Hofstra pushing to draw closer, Bustamante got free on a breakaway in the 78th minute. Junior
Remi Frost set his front-running classmate free into the attacking third, and Bustamante beat Ashton to the right side from 15 yards out.

Quotables
"Overall, we are certainly pleased. Obviously to go on the road to a tough venue and beat a team that you have already beaten is tough to do. The guys' attitude was good, and they did a great job of following the game plan. As a result, we were able to get an early goal to ease the pressure. Hofstra upped the tempo, and it was good for us to answer after they equalized. I felt like all our goals came at critical moments in the game."
– Head Coach Chris Norris thoughts on the win
"It was special. One of the best things about the goals Antonio scored tonight, outside of the free kick, is that he got behind the defense. Last year, he was doing that a lot, but this year, his goals have come different ways. We have been preaching to our attacking players to get behind defense and get on the end of one. It was really encouraging to see Antonio do that, and he made three of them count." –
