CHARLESTON, S.C. – The William & Mary men's soccer team rallied from a second-half deficit to forge a 1-1 draw at Charleston on Saturday evening. Junior
Ryder Bell answered a second-half Cougar goal in the 68th minute, and both teams extended their unbeaten streaks with the tie. W&M (8-4-5, 3-2-3 CAA) pushed its streak to seven matches (4-0-3), while Charleston (7-5-4, 3-1-4 CAA) improved to 5-0-3 in its last eight contests.
CofC jumped on top with a Vebjorn Kroval goal off a corner kick in the 64th minute. Eli Dent served it in to the backside of the 18-yard box, and Kroval volleyed the pass into the back of the net from eight yards out.
The Green and Gold wasted little time pulling even with a goal just four minutes later. Junior
Marcel Berry played the ball to Bell inside the top of the 18-yard box. Bell cut back toward the center of the area, and hit a left-footed shot just under Charleston goalkeeper Kevin Shields to the near post, knotting the match at one.
The Tribe had chances for the winner in the second half and overtime. In the 75th minute, Bell sent a header just wide of the post off a Berry cross. With just 20 seconds remaining in the second OT, Berry lifted a header just wide of the upper left corner from an
Antonio Bustamante corner kick.
On the other side, the Cougars' Jake Nicholson hit the top of the crossbar on a 20-yard free kick at the end of regular season. Senior goalkeeper
Phil Breno made a pair of saves in the second overtime period, denying Marcelo Malpartida in the 103rd minute and Lorenz Esposito in the 108th, to preserve the draw.

Quotables
"A draw was fair. I think both teams played hard, but there were not a lot of chances in the first half. It was a lot of battling in midfield with a number of 50/50 balls. I was happy with the team's effort overall and happy that we bounced back after giving up a goal. We have to be sharper than we were tonight though. We turned the ball over too many times, but again sometimes you have to go on the road and grid it out. We did a good job of that."
– Head Coach Chris Norris' overall thoughts
"We had goals of finishing higher in the league, but I think the number of close games and number of draws show how good the league is. We are happy to be involved in conference tournament. It would have been good to get a home game inthe quarterfinals or a bye, but it certainly doesn't bother us to have to go on the road. Sometimes continuing to play is the best way to keep things going and to keep a rhythm. We are going to keep a positive perspective and hopefully we can get on a run like we did last year."
– Norris said of hitting the road for the CAA Quarterfinals
