Men's Soccer Runs Unbeaten Streak to Six with Draw at #24 Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The William & Mary men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six matches with a 1-1 draw at No. 24-ranked Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night. Junior Antonio Bustamante gave W&M (8-4-4) a 1-0 lead with a first-half goal, but the Chanticleers (7-6-1), who were coming off a 1-0 upset at No. 2 Maryland, answered before the end of the half, and the teams played to a stalemate the rest of the way.

"We competed well overall, but we just lacked the sharpness," head coach Chris Norris said. "We did a good job of scrapping, battling and defending to get a result. There was not a lot going on for either team in the first half. The second half was more open, and we played better, but didn't turn it into a ton of chances like we have."

In the 31st minute, senior William Eskay carried the ball down the right flank on the counter. His cross found Bustamante who touched into the penalty area before finishing past Coastal Carolina goalkeeper Braulio Linares-Ortiz for his eighth goal of the season.

Unfortunately, the Chanticleers found the equalizer just 49 seconds later. CCU's Frantzdy Pierrott lofted a cross to the middle of the area, and Romario Piggott sent a header off the crossbar. He bounced on his own rebound and scored into the right side from six yards out to pull the home team even.

Quotables
"We competed well overall, but we just lacked the sharpness. We did a good job of scrapping, battling and defending to get a result. There was not a lot going on for either team in the first half. The second half was more open, and we played better, but didn't turn it into a ton of chances like we have. Honestly, we looked a little tired tonight, and we played with a short bench, missing Riley Spain."  - Head Coach Chris Norris overall thoughts

"We scored a good goal in transition. William (Eskay) carried the ball down the right side and found Antonio, who took a positive touch into the box. He was about to roll it past the keeper." - Norris on the Tribe's goal

"We did receive some strong performances off the bench. Alfonso Speed Jr., saw extended minutes and played well. Geoffrey Young came on in overtime and made positive impact." – Norris on the play of the bench
