WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Juniors
Marcel Berry and
Antonio Bustamante found the back of the net as the William & Mary men's soccer team rolled to a 2-0 win over previous league unbeaten Hofstra on Saturday night at Martin Family Stadium. The Tribe (7-4-3, 3-2-2 CAA) ran its win streak to third matches in Colonial Athletic Association play, while snapping a two-match streak for the Pride (3-5-6, 2-1-4 CAA).
The Green and Gold offense turned on the pressure from the outset, attempting the game's opening five shots and seven of the first eight. Berry created the Tribe's first goal in the 28th minute. He carried the ball into the penalty area with a quick run from the right flank. His initial shot toward the right post was blocked on a kick save from Hofstra's Alex Ashton. Berry followed it up, heading the rebound down and through the goalkeeper's five-hole to put the Tribe on top.
Leading 1-0 at the break, W&M continued the offensive pressure from the start of the second. W&M put three of its first four chances of the period on frame. Bustamante finally doubled the Tribe lead in the 65th minute chipping Ashton from 18 yards out. Bell set the play up with a run down the left side, before setting Bustamante free with a nice through ball.
Defensively, the Tribe posted its second-straight shutout and sixth of the year. Senior
Phil Breno finished with three saves to record the clean sheet.
