The William & Mary volleyball team came up just shy at Northeastern on Friday night, falling 3-0. The Tribe moved to 6-10 overall, 0-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while Northeastern improved to 12-5 on the year, and 2-1 in conference play.
"Even though the outcome wasn't what we wanted, I think we are taking steps in the right direction," said head coach
Melissa Ferris afterwards. "We have to learn to fight harder to be disciplined at all times. When we do that the outcome will be what we want it to be. I'm proud of this team for all of their hard work and look forwards to Sunday and another opportunity to compete!"
Top scorer honors for W&M on the night went to freshman
Casey Foote (Prospect, Ky.), who continued to build her resume with a double-double of 12 kills and 15 digs to go along with an ace. Junior
Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) hit .391 with 11 kills and a pair of blocks, and freshman
Alex Stein (East Setauket, N.Y.) hit .368 with eight kills and a block. Junior
Paige Humphrey (Oak Hill, Va.) and sophomore
Katie Primatic (Pittstown, N.Y.) both had a game-high three blocks, Primatic adding in five kills.
Also with a match-high on the night was junior
Sara Zumbach (Franklin, Tenn.), who had 17 digs and a service aces. Freshman
Samantha Conway (Mechanicsville, Va.) also hit double-digit digs with 10, and senior
Gabrielle Pe (Virginia Beach, Va.) had eight to chip in on the defensive end. Freshman
Autumn Brenner (McLean, Va.) rounded out the notables with 34 assists, five digs, and two each of kills, aces, and blocks.
William & Mary will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, playing at Hofstra at 1 p.m.
