WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 8, 2016)—The William & Mary lacrosse team was edged by Hofstra, 10-9, in overtime at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Friday evening.
Hofstra's Lexi Lenaghan provided the game-winner off an assist from Lindsay Scott just 31 seconds into overtime. The goal came shortly after Lindsey Alfano secured the opening draw of the extra session.
The Tribe (6-6, 0-2) owned a 9-5 advantage midway through the second half, but Hofstra (3-7, 1-0) held W&M scoreless during the final 18:47 of regulation en route to sending the game into overtime.
W&M senior goalie
Meredith Crizer helped preserve the tie in regulation when she posted a huge save on a free position shot by Lenaghan with 2:30 remaining. The College had a chance win the game in the closing minutes, but sophomore
Abby Corkum's contested shot went wide with less than 20 seconds remaining.
Junior
Shannon Quinn led the Tribe with four points (2g, 2a) and a game-high four ground balls, while junior
Lindsey Jenks and freshman
Hannah Ryan added two goals apiece.
W&M outshot HU, 23-20, totaled more ground balls (19-17) and committed fewer turnovers (14-15), but the Pride owned a 13-8 advantage in draw controls.

Although Hofstra knotted the score at 3-3 midway through the opening half, the Tribe responded with three unanswered goals to build a 6-3 advantage early in the second stanza. Corkum (14:39), Jenks (9:06) and Quinn (29:31) all found the back of the cage during the stretch.
Back-to-back scores by Hofstra narrowed the margin to one, but W&M responded with another 3-0 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 9-5, with 18:48 remaining. This time it was sophomore
Danielle Palmucci (22:54) and Ryan (21:15, 18:48) who recorded the goals.
However, W&M was unable to score during the remainder of the contest as Hofstra earned the comeback overtime victory.
Scott led the Pride with five points (4g, 1a), while Lenaghan added two goals.
The Tribe will return to action when it hosts Drexel on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
