Late Run Pushes Drexel Past Tribe Lax, 11-8

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 10, 2016)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to Drexel, 11-8, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Tribe (6-7, 0-3) rallied back from a four-goal deficit to lead 7-6 midway through the second half, but Drexel (8-4, 1-1) closed the game with a 5-1 run en route to securing the league victory.

Senior Zoe Boger (2g, 1a) and sophomore McKinley Wade (2g, 1a) led W&M with three points apiece, while junior Abby Junior totaled two goals, three ground balls and a caused turnover.

The College owned a 13-11 edge in ground balls and committed fewer turnovers (8-9), but the Dragons outshot W&M, 22-18, and earned a 13-8 advantage in draw controls.

Although Drexel jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the contest, the Tribe responded with a 4-1 run to narrow the margin to 5-4 late in the first half. Wade provided two of the goals (16:02, 4:08), while sophomore Abby Corkum (13:17) and junior Shannon Quinn (4:40) also found the back of the cage during the stretch.

While Drexel posted a goal by Grace Osterdale late in the initial stanza to take a 6-4 advantage into the locker room, W&M opened the second half with three unanswered goals to secure its first lead of the game, 7-6, with 21:47 remaining. Boger provided the first two goals (25:59, 25:13), while Junior added the other (21:47).

However, the Tribe scored just one goal during the remainder of the contest as Drexel rallied back for the victory.

Nadia Pelham-Lacey (3g, 1) led Drexel with four points, while Lacey Aghazarian and Devin Nihill scored three goals apiece.

The Tribe will continue its conference slate when it travels to No. 17 Towson and Delaware in two weeks.
