NEWARK, Del. (April 24, 2016) – The William & Mary lacrosse team wrapped up its weekend road trip with a 17-7 setback at Delaware on Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Hens (11-6, 3-3) opened the contest with five unanswered goals and never led by less than four en route to securing the league victory.
Freshman
Maddie Torgerson led the Tribe (6-9, 0-5) with two goals, while junior
Abby Junior provided a goal, five ground balls, three caused turnovers and a draw control. Senior goalie
Meredith Crizer added 13 saves.
UD outshot W&M, 37-16, and owned advantages in draw controls (17-8) and ground balls (22-14).
After Delaware opened the contest with a 5-0 run, junior
Shannon Quinn put W&M on the scoreboard with a goal at 13:37.
Sophomore
Danielle Palmucci (11:40) and Torgerson (0:41) also added goals in the opening stanza, but the Blue Hens took an 8-3 lead into the locker room.
Delaware began the second half by scoring four of the first five goals to increase the margin to 12-4 with 19:31 remaining.
Although W&M got scores from Junior (19:02), Torgerson (10:27) and sophomore
Cameron MacDonald (0:06) down the stretch, W&M was unable to narrow the margin to less than seven the rest of the way.
Kara Dattellas (2g, 3a) and Jamie Schwartz (2g, 3a) led UD offensively with five points apiece.
The Tribe will close out the 2016 season when it hosts Elon for Senior Day next Saturday at noon.
