TOWSON, Md. (April 22, 2016) – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at No. 18 Towson, 13-7, on Friday evening.
W&M (6-8, 0-4) led by two goals late in the first half, but TU (12-2, 5-0) outscored the Tribe, 10-2, during the remainder of the contest en route to securing the league victory.
With the triumph, Towson extended its winning streak to six games and remains unbeaten in conference play.
Junior
Shannon Quinn led W&M with two goals, while sophomore
Danielle Palmucci provided three points (1g, 2a). Junior
Lindsey Jenks also came up big with a team-high four draw controls, while junior
Julia McGrath added three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Although the College owned a 12-10 advantage in draw controls, Towson outshot the Tribe (25-18), earned a narrow edge in ground balls (19-16) and committed two fewer turnovers (20-18).
Things looked good for the Tribe in the opening half, as it built a 4-2 advantage nearly 20 minutes into the contest. Quinn gave the Tribe an early 1-0 lead on a free position opportunity (26:45), while W&M answered back-to-back scores by the Tigers with a 3-0 run. Palmucci provided a goal (17:33) and assisted on scores by freshman
Eloise Gagnon (14:51) and senior
Zoe Boger (11:49) during the stretch.
However, Towson scored four of the final five goals of the half to take a 6-5 advantage into the locker room.
While the Tigers utilized a 3-1 run to start the second half, Quinn's second goal of the contest at 8:40 narrowed the margin to just two, 9-7.
However, TU closed the game with four unanswered goals to pull away for the victory.
Kaitly Montalbano (3g, 1a), Natalie Sulmonte (3g, 1a) and Emily Gillingham (2g, 2a) led Towson with four points apiece.
The Tribe will return to action when it plays at Delaware on Sunday at 1 p.m.
