LYNCHBURG, Va. (March 26, 2016) – The William & Mary lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference slate with a 10-5 victory at Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
With the triumph, W&M extended its winning streak to three games and improved to 6-4, while Liberty fell to 1-8.
The Tribe utilized a balanced attack as four different players – senior
Kelly Martins, junior
Shannon Quinn, sophomore
Abby Corkum and sophomore
McKinley Wade – all scored two goals apiece.
Junior
Abby Junior came up big defensively with a team-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Although Liberty got on the scoreboard first just 1:15 into the contest, the College held the Flames scoreless during the remainder of the opening half en route to taking a 7-1 advantage into the locker room. Quinn and Wade both provided two goals apiece during the pivotal stretch.
While LU struck first during the second stanza with a goal by Michaela Rich, W&M answered with scores by Corkum (26:39) and Martins (22:47) to push the margin to 9-3.
Although the Tribe scored just once more during the remainder of the contest, Liberty was unable to narrow the margin to less than four down the stretch.
W&M outshot LU, 27-16, and owned advantages in draw controls (9-8) and ground balls (20-14).
Natalie Silvers led Liberty with two goals, while Kallie Britton provide two points (1g, 1a).
The Tribe will return to action when it begins its conference slate at James Madison next Saturday.
