Tribe Lax Edges Richmond, 10-9

RICHMOND, Va. (March 23, 2016)—The William & Mary lacrosse team earned a 10-9 victory at Richmond on Wednesday evening.
 
Although W&M (5-4) trailed 7-6 midway through the second half, it outscored the Spiders 4-2 during the final 10:30 en route to securing its third one-goal victory of the season.
 
Junior Shannon Quinn led the Tribe with four goals on five shots, while sophomore Abby Corkum totaled three points (2g, 1a).
 
Junior Lindsey Jenks also came up big with four draw controls, while goalie Meredith Crizer totaled a career-high 14 saves – 10 of which came in the first half.
 
Although Richmond (4-3) opened the game with a pair of goals, the Tribe responded with a 6-0 run and held the Spiders scoreless for a span of 19:31. Quinn and Corkum both played pivotal roles during the stretch with two goals apiece.
 
After UR responded with a 5-0 run of its own to claim a 7-6 advantage with 12:04 remaining, W&M charged back by scoring four of the next five goals. Quinn ignited the run with a pair of scores, while senior Zoe Boger (6:12) and sophomore Danielle Palmucci (3:11) provided the final two decisive goals.
 
Richmond's Brooke Wilson narrowed the margin to just one with 2:48 remaining, but freshman Hannah Ryan secured the ensuing draw and W&M maintained possession for the remainder of the contest to preserve the victory.
 
UR outshot the College, 33-21, and owned a narrow edge in draw controls, 11-9. Both teams totaled 13 ground balls apiece.
 
Richmond utilized a balanced attack offensively as four different players recorded two goals apiece.
 
The Tribe will wrap up its non-conference slate when it travels to Liberty on Saturday at 1 p.m.
