Early Run Propels Tribe Lax Past ODU, 17-14

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 10, 2016)—The William & Mary lacrosse team defeated Old Dominion, 17-14, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Tribe (3-3) utilized a 6-0 run during the first half en route to building a five-goal advantage and never relinquished the lead.

W&M extended the margin to as many as seven multiple times in the second half, and the Lady Monarchs (4-2) were never able to get closer than the final margin during the second stanza.

A trio of Tribe standouts led the squad offensively, as junior Shannon Quinn (4g), senior Zoe Boger (3g), sophomore McKinley Wade (3g) and sophomore Danielle Palmucci (3a) all came up big.

Junior Lindsey Jenks was outstanding on the draw and totaled a game-high five draw controls.

Although ODU jumped out to an early 2-1 advantage seven minutes into the contest, W&M responded with a pivotal 6-0 run during which it held the Lady Monarchs scoreless for a stretch of nearly 14 minutes.

The College took its biggest lead of the game, 11-4, with a goal by Boger less than two minutes into the second half and were able to maintain that margin when Boger found the back of the cage with 14:24 remaining to put W&M ahead, 15-8.

While ODU closed the game on a 6-2 run, it was unable to get closer than the final margin down the stretch.

Many of the statistical categories were even, as W&M held narrow margins in ground balls (24-20) and draw controls (17-16).

Ashmore Standing led the Lady Monarchs with seven goals.

The Tribe will return to action when it hosts No. 18 Connecticut next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
