BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (Feb. 17, 2016)—The William & Mary lacrosse team cruised to a convincing 19-3 victory at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday evening.
The Tribe (1-1) jumped out to a 9-1 advantage and held the Runnin' Bulldogs (0-3) scoreless during the second half en route to earning its first victory of the season.
W&M utilized a balanced scoring attack, as 14 different players found the back of the cage. Leading the way were senior
Michelle Goss and freshman
Eloise Gagnon who totaled three goals apiece. Sophomore
Danielle Palmucci (1g, 3a), junior
Lynda Michaels (4a), senior
Zoe Boger (1g, 2a) and sophomore
Meaghan Brophy (2g) also came up big offensively.
Freshman
Holly Hager led the way defensively with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while preseason all-conference standout
Abby Junior contributed four ground balls.
All three Tribe goalies also came up big and allowed just three goals while combining to total six saves.
In addition to outshooting GWU, 36-11, W&M owned a 17-7 advantage in draw controls. Sophomore

Maddie Torgerson helped contribute to the lopsided advantage on draws with three apiece.
The Tribe jumped out to a 5-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest, as Corkum, Goss, Gagnon and Junior all found the back of the cage early.
Although a goal by Gardner-Webb's Alex Fusco with 20:09 showing ended W&M's game-opening run, the Green and Gold responded with four unanswered scores to build a 9-1 advantage. Brophy, junior
Lindsey Jenks, Palmucci and Torgerson all scored during the pivotal stretch.
While the Runnin' Bulldogs closed the half by scoring two of the final three goals, W&M took a 10-3 lead into the locker room.
Nearly the entire second half was played with a running clock as W&M extended the margin to double digits less than five minutes into the second stanza.
Alex Fusco provided two of Gardner-Webb's three scores, while goalie Cassidy McDowell totaled 17 saves.
The Tribe will return to action when it hosts Oregon in for its home opener at Albert-Daly Field at Martin Family Stadium on Feb. 28.
