COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Feb. 14, 2016) – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at top-ranked Maryland, 19-7, in both teams' season opener on Sunday afternoon.
The Tribe trailed just 7-4 midway through the first half, but the two-time defending national champions pulled away with a 10-2 run.

Shannon Quinn led W&M with three goals, while sophomore
Abby Corkum provided a pair of scores. Quinn's stat line also included two draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
The College was impressive on draws, as UM owned a narrow 14-13 edge. However, the Terps outshot W&M, 32-12, and committed eight fewer turnovers (21-13).
The contest was close early, as the Tribe trailed just 2-1 following a goal by Quinn off an assist from sophomore
Danielle Palmucci about five minutes into the contest.
Although the Terps responded with four unanswered goals to build a 6-1 advantage midway through the half, W&M countered by scoring three of the next four goals to narrow the margin to 7-4. Corkum provided a pair of goals during the stretch, while sophomore
Emma MacLeod also found the back of the cage.
However, UM pulled away by closing the first half with a 5-0 run to take a 12-4 lead into the locker room.
Despite the eight-goal margin at halftime, the College had just one fewer draw controls than UM (9-8) and scored on four of its six shots for a .667 shooting percentage.
Although W&M recorded two of the first three goals to start the second half – both by Quinn – Maryland outscored the Tribe 6-1 during the remainder of the contest. Sophomore McKinley registered the College's final goal.
Maryland was led by two-time national player of the year, Taylor Cummings (4g, 2a), and Zoe Stukenberg (4g, 1a).
The Tribe will return to action when it plays at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
