The William & Mary volleyball team fell on the road to a tough UNCW squad on Friday night, 3-0. The Tribe moves to 8-18 on the year and 2-11 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Seahawks improved to 15-10 overall (5-8 CAA).
Despite the loss, the Tribe had several bright spots in the match, including a major career achievement for senior
Gabrielle Pe (Virginia Beach, Va.). Pe had a team-best nine digs on the night, and became the 10th player in school history to surpass 1,000 digs in her career. Pe and junior
Sara Zumbach (Franklin, Tenn.), who reached the milestone earlier this season, are the first teammates since 2005 to both pass 1,000 digs in the same season.
Zumbach also had nine digs on the night in just two sets of action, and also added in a service aces. Classmate
Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) led W&M with nine kills to go with four digs and a block, and sophomore
Katie Primatic (Pittstown, N.J.) had a team-best two blocks on the night, one of them solo. Also of note, freshman
Casey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) had six kills and three digs, and her classmate
Alex Stein (East Setauket, N.Y.) had four kills, two digs, an ace, and a block. Freshman
Samantha Conway (Mechanicsville, Va.) continued her quietly efficient season with eight digs, an ace, and two kills, and setters
Katie Kemp (Brentwood, Tenn.) and
Autumn Brenner (McLean, Va.) had almost identical nights of 11 assists, two kills, and three digs for Kemp; 10 assists, two kills, and four digs for Brenner.
William & Mary finishes out the road portion of its schedule on Sunday, facing College of Charleston at 1 p.m.
