The William & Mary men's swimming team heads to James Madison this weekend, to take part in the JMU Duals on Saturday and Sunday. On the first day, the Tribe will face the Pirates of East Carolina at 8:30 a.m., and then on Sunday, will face either UNCW or Delaware at either 8:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
The Duals Structure
This weekend's meet will be a dual-meet bracket, with the winners and losers of the first-day match-ups (W&M/ECU and UNCW/UD) meeting on the second day. Sunday, the two winners will swim at 8:30 a.m., with the two losers to follow at 12:30 p.m.
Scouting the Tribe
W&M enters the weekend at 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association, after downing Towson on the road last week. Senior
Joe Eiden (White Plains, N.Y.) won his second CAA Swimmer of the Week award after going 4-0 against the Tigers, including a dual-meet record 20.69 in the 50 free. Freshman
Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) is having a spectacular start to his career, and already owns dual-meet records for W&M in the 500 free (4:35.91), 1000 free (9:25.49), and 1650 free (16:04.58) after just three weeks of competition.
Scouting the Pirates
East Carolina is 1-1 on the season, with a win over Catawba College and a loss to Navy. Tristan Taylor (200 free and 200 back) and Boleck DePawlikowski (1000 free, 400 IM) each won two events against Catawba, as did Victor Santos in the 50 free and 100 fly.
Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW is 1-0 on the season with a win over Old Dominion coming way back in mid-October. Senior Will Ryan is the top performer, and leads the CAA in several events this season.
Scouting the Blue Hens
Delaware is 1-1 overall, beating Georgetown in the season opener but falling to George Mason in their last meet on Oct. 15. Patrick Savidge is the swimmer to watch in the breaststrokes and IM, winning three events against the Patriots and five times overall this season.
