William & Mary senior
Joe Eiden (White Plains, N.Y.) earned his second Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week award on Tuesday, after another record-breaking performance last weekend. Eiden was also honored earlier this fall after the season-opening meet against Georgetown and Johns Hopkins, and alongside freshman
Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.), has now accounted for Swimmer of the Week following all three of W&M's meets this season.
Eiden led the Tribe men's team to a 150-130 win over Towson on the road Saturday, and was undefeated in all four of his races. Individually, he swam the 100 free in 45.90 for the win, and also took top honors in the 50 free in 20.69 seconds. That broke the Tribe's dual-meet record by .01 seconds, bettering the mark set by
Ben Ward '13 at Towson back in 2012. Eiden also anchored both of W&M's winning relays, bringing the 200 medley relay home in 1:32.07, and finishing off the 400 free relay in 3:04.18. For the season, Eiden leads the Tribe with nine wins, and is the CAA's top-ranked swimmer in the 50 free (20.69), 100 free (45.16), 200 free (1:41.98), and every relay but the 800 free.
Eiden and his teammates are back in action this weekend, competing at the JMU Quad Invitational. The Tribe will swim on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 8:30 a.m. against East Carolina, and then on Sunday, will face either UNCW or Delaware. If W&M wins Saturday's meet, it'll swim at 8:30 a.m. against the winner of the Seahawks and Blue Hens - if the Tribe loses to the Pirates, then it'll swim at 12:30 p.m. against the loser of the UNCW/UD meet. All races will be hosted by James Madison.
