The William & Mary volleyball team won the first set handily and fought James Madison to the fullest in the next three on Friday night, before being narrowly edged 3-1. The Tribe moves to 8-17 on the year and 2-10 in league play, while the Dukes improved to 15-10 and 7-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Freshman
Alex Stein (East Setauket, N.Y.) had a career night to lead the Tribe, scoring 11 kills and 16 digs for her first career double-double. Senior
Kristen Larrick (Bethesda, Md.) also played very well, hitting a career-best .455 with 10 kills against no errors, and also added in four blocks, a defensive total matched by
Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) who also had 11 kills and nine digs.
Junior
Paige Humphrey (Oak Hill, Va.) had six kills and two blocks, one of them solo, while freshman
Casey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) had six more kills and 14 digs. Senior
Gabrielle Pe (Virginia Beach, Va.) pair two aces and 13 digs, and now stands just six digs shy of 1,000 in her career. Junior
Sara Zumbach (Franklin, Tenn.) had 12 more digs and an ace, while freshman
Samantha Conway (Mechanicsville, Va.) had two aces on the night. In the setter's role, sophomore
Katie Kemp (Brentwood, Tenn.) had 34 assists and six digs.
William & Mary hits the road for the final time next weekend, traveling to UNCW and College of Charleston next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
