The William & Mary volleyball team fought hard against Elon on Monday night, achieving 18 ties and eight lead changes before falling by a 3-0 count. The Tribe moved to 8-16 on the year and 2-9 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Phoenix improved to 16-10 overall, 3-7 in league play.
Leading the way for W&M was junior
Paige Humphrey (Oak HIll, Va.), who hit .500 with eight kills and a match-high five blocks. Freshman
Alex Stein (East Setauket, N.Y.) nearly had a double-double, with 10 kills on a .400 attack and nine digs, and junior
Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) chipped in eight more kills and a pair of blocks. Sophomore
Katie Kemp (Brentwood, Tenn.) did get the double-double, her second in a row, with 19 assists and 10 digs in just two sets of action.
Also appearing in just two sets was junior
Sara Zumbach (Franklin, Tenn.), who had a team-high 12 digs, as well as freshman
Autumn Brenner (McLean, Va.) who had 10 assists, four digs, a block, and an ace in a little more than one full set. Her classmate
Casey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) paired six kills and six digs with another ace and block, and rookie
Samantha Conway (Mechanicsville, Va.) served out a pair of aces to go with five digs. Rounding out the notables was senior
Gabrielle Pe (Virginia Beach, Va.) with eight digs, bringing her to within 19 of reaching 1,000 in her career.
William & Mary finishes out its four-game homestand this weekend, hosting James Madison on Friday night at 7 p.m.
