William & Mary junior
Faris Sakallah (Chantilly, Va.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Runner of the Week on Tuesday, after winning his first cross country race last weekend. This the first award of the season for the Tribe, and the first of Sakallah's career.
Sakallah won the W&M Invitational on Friday night, running the 6K course in 18:43.93. He finished just a step ahead of teammate
Ryan Gousse (Apopka, Fla.), and led a Tribe sweep of the top three places. In fact, W&M had each of the first five scoring runners for a perfect score of 15 points and the win over teams from CNU, Charlotte, and Norfolk State. This was the first cross country win of Sakallah's career, and his second all-time victory to go along with the CAA 10,000m title last spring.
Sakallah and the rest of the Tribe have this weekend off, before beginning the regular season Oct. 3 at the Princeton Inter-Regional.
