Leeza Nemchinov, Jeltje Loomans Garner CAA Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. - For the second straight week, the William and Mary women's tennis team swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly awards, the league announced on Wednesday. Junior Leeza Nemchinov garnered her second consecutive CAA Player of the Week accolade, while Nemhinov and senior Jeltje Loomans were named the league's doubles team of the week. The duo earned the honors after helping the Green and Gold to nationally-ranked wins over No. 61 Wake Forest and No. 63 Maryland last week.

Nemchinov continued her undefeated mark at No. 1 singles with a pair of important victories in the Tribe nationally ranked wins. The Tribe junior upended previously unbeaten Kimmy Guerin of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-4, in the 4-3 win over the Demon Deacons. Nemchinov closed out the week by upending Alexandra Stanova, who was ranked No. 9 in the ITA Atlantic Region, in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (3), to clinch the victory over the Terrapins. She improved to 5-0 at No. 1 and 13-2 overall. Nemchinov earned the award last week as well, the first weekly singles honor of her career.

In doubles, Nemchinov and Loomans won both their matches at No. 1 in helping the Tribe to the doubles point in both matches. The Tribe pair bounced Luisa Fernandez and Kasey Gardiner, who were ranked No. 9 in the ITA Atlantic Region following the fall season, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point against Wake Forest. Nemchinov and Loomans downed Welma Luus and Nataliya Bredikhina, 6-3, in the victory over Maryland. They rank their win streak to five matches, improving to 11-2 overall, including a 5-1 mark at No. 1.

It is the second straight week in which the Tribe took home the doubles honor as freshmen Maria Groener and Olivia Thaler received the accolade on Jan. 28. The doubles award is the second in Nemchinov's career and the eighth time that Loomans has garnerd the distinction.

The Green and Gold returns to action with a pair of nationally ranked road matches next week. The Tribe travels to No. 24 Mississippi on Sunday, Feb. 15, before heading to No. 58 Memphis on Monday, Feb. 16. Both matches carry a noon start time.
