The 36th Annual Sentara Colonial Half-Marathon and 5K will be held in a slightly altered fashion this year, due to the lingering effects of this week's winter storm.  Due to unsafe course conditions, the half marathon race is cancelled, while the 5K will still be run on Sunday, Feb. 22.  Below is the full text of the letter sent to all runners registered by the race committee, and at the bottom of the letter is the updated schedule of events for Sunday.

Dear Race Participants,
 
We regret to inform all half-marathon entries that the recent inclement weather has caused hazardous course conditions resulting in the cancellation of the Sentara Colonial Half Marathon. However, the 5k portion of the event will be contested and will be open for all race registrants, including half-marathon entries, at no extra cost.
 
While there are no refunds for those that have signed up for the half marathon, a $25 credit can be applied towards registration for the 2016 Sentara Colonial Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, February 28, 2016.
 
Please note that all other activities will remain unaffected. The expo and beer garden will both be open and ready for guests, and souvenir race shirts will still be available for pick-up. Please remember to bring a valid proof of ID in order to enter the beer garden area.

Why was the race canceled?
Our primary concern was for the safety of the participants.  There were long stretches of the half marathon course that would have been unsafe due to the recent winter storms and prevailing cold front.
 
Why can you still hold the 5k?!
The majority of this course is already clear of snow and ice and the race management team is certain it will be able to provide a safe running conditions by Sunday afternoon.
 
How do I get access to my discount for next year's entry fee?
We will provide all entries from this year with a special rebate code for the on-line registration at a date in the near future.
 
Do I lose the discount if I choose to still race in the 5k?
No. Regardless of participation in the 2015 Sentara Colonial 5K, you will be able to receive credit for the 2016 Sentara Colonial Half Marathon.
