The Tribe had two corners following the Kent shot, and on the second one W&M got on the board. Baxter sent in the corner that found sophomore
Sami Grasso, who had her chance blocked. The ball deflected to Kober, who uncorked a shot on target and was saved by Rekos. The rebound deflected to Johnston and she cleaned up the mess. Johnston's sixth goal of the season gave W&M a 1-0 lead.
Just four minutes later W&M doubled its lead with its second goal. Senior
Barbara Platenberg set Kober free into the box. The freshman got free into the box and was able to juke the goalkeeper. With no one else to beat, Kober fired from four yards out to move the lead to 2-0.
Delaware tried to find the back of the net after the second goal, and were able to put one more shot on target in the match. Natalie Zelenky cleared some space and unleashed a shot towards the goal, but Casey came up with the save for the Tribe.
W&M outshot the Blue Hens by a 12-5 margin, which included a 6-3 advantage in shots on-goal. Kober and Johnston fired three shots apiece for the Green and Gold.
The win marks the fifth straight win for the Green and Gold. It's the first five game-winning streak since Sept. 7-21, 2013. It also marks the fifth straight season the Tribe has posted a five-game winning streak.
Casey and the Tribe defense also continued its impressive run of not allowing a goal, moving its scoreless streak to 390 minutes and recorded its fourth straight shutout. Casey, who moved into sole possession of fourth place all-time in career shutouts with 26, moved into to a tie for seventh all-time in single season shutouts with her seventh of the season. Her three saves on the day keep Casey in third place, and put her five saves away from second place all-time.
The Green and Gold returns to action for two more road matches next weekend. The Tribe travels to Towson on Friday, Oct. 23, before heading to James Madison on Sunday, Oct. 25. Kickoffs are scheduled for 2 p.m., and 1 p.m. respectively.
