The William & Mary field hockey dropped a hard-fought match at St. Joseph's on Sunday, falling 4-3 in Philadelphia. The Tribe moves to 5-10 on the year, while the Hawks improved to 6-8 overall.
Sophomore
Cammie Lloyd (Midlothian, Va.) was the main weapon in the shoot-out, scoring both a goal and an assist, just than 90 seconds apart. In the 14th minute, she picked up a loose ball in the circle and lofted it over the goalkeeper's shoulder for her seventh goal of the season, putting the Tribe ahead 2-1 at that point. Peyton Smith (Richmond, Va.) finished the play with her first goal of the year, and put W&M in front 3-1.
Junior
Maria Jose Pastor (Burke, Va.) also found the back of the net for the Tribe, scoring her second of the season in the ninth minute out of a scrum in front of the St. Joe's cage to put the Green and Gold ahead 1-0. For the game, the Tribe out-shot the Hawks 15-9, and had an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.
William & Mary returns home for the rest of the season, beginning a four-match homestand next weekend. The stretch begins with two games over Homecoming, hosting No. 18 James Madison on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., and VCU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
