Tribe Men?s Gymnastics Sponsors Local Food Drive

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 27, 2014) — The William and Mary men's gymnastics program has a long tradition of excelling athletically, academically and in the community. This year's team continued to build upon that tradition by sponsoring its annual food drive, which collected 2,953 pounds of canned goods for the local FISH food bank.

“Our men's gymnastics team has always felt that the canned food drive is one way we can give something back to our Williamsburg community,” head coach Cliff Gauthier said. “We are thrilled to be able to support an outstanding, community-oriented food pantry like FISH.”

This year's drive was conducted over a weeklong span, as the team distributed flyers throughout the Williamsburg area on Jan. 19 before collecting the donations last Sunday.

This winter marks the sixth year that W&M has sponsored a food drive benefiting FISH. During that span, the Tribe has collected approximately 14,500 pounds of food for the organization.

The FISH volunteer food pantry serves hundreds of clients each month by providing emergency food, clothing and transportation services.

After a second-place finish at the Navy Open last weekend, the 12th-ranked Tribe will return to action in two weeks when it competes at Brockport (Feb. 8) and Springfield (Feb. 9).
