WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – St. Francis' Nick Kolarac late second half goal lifted the Red Flash to a season opening 1-0 win over the William and Mary men's soccer team on Friday evening at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

The Tribe falls to 0-1-0, while the Red Flash improve to 1-0-0 on the young season. The match was the season opener for both schools.

W&M had the match's first chance in the fifth minute. Off of a corner kick, senior Will Smith's header sailed just wide of the net. Again the 10th minute junior Josh West had a chance, but his shot was blocked.

In the 24th minute, junior Michael Teiman sent a shot on frame, but St. Francis keeper Andrew Garcia was there for the save.  Later in the 31st minute, junior Chris Albiston had a chance, but again Garcia was there for the stop.

In the 62nd minute following a turnover in the defensive third, St Francis' Pablo Medina drove the left side of the field passing off to Wallis Debourou. Debourou crossed the ball into the box, where Kolarec fired a shot off the post. Kolarec collected the rebound and scored the game's only goal.

The Tribe fought for the equalizer, but Garcia came up with a big save in the game's final minutes. In the 84th minute sophomore Ryan Flesch put a shot on frame, but Garcia made a diving stop. Again in the 85th minute senior Chris Perez had a look, but his shot was blocked. Garcia and St. Francis were able hang on for the 1-0 lead.

William and Mary hits the road for back-to-back matches, starting Monday, Sept. 2 at No. 5 Connecticut. Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m.
