William and Mary senior Taylor Hodge (Louisville, Ky.) recorded her first career multi-goal game Sunday, leading the Tribe past Towson with a 5-1 road victory.  With the win, the Tribe improves to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Tigers fall to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Towson was immediately the aggressor from the opening whistle, taking five shots in the first 13 minutes and hopping out to a 1-0 lead off a penalty corner on the fifth attempt.  That would be all they would get the rest of the day, however, as the defense clamped down and the forwards began controlling play downfield and never let the Tigers get another shot.  Freshman Maria Pastor (Burke, Va.) scored in the 20th minute to equalize the match, tipping in a pass from Pippin Saunders (Mittagong, NSW), and just 90 seconds later, Brittany Hopkins (Springfield, Va.) found Hodge streaking through the circle to bang a shot into the boards and take the lead, 2-1.

W&M would have one more score in them before the half, courtesy of Saunders this time who drove the defense and with a flick of the wrist shot it past the keeper and into the far boards.  Coming out of the break, Hodge picked up her second goal just 44 seconds in, blasting one from distance and putting the Green and Gold ahead 4-1.  From there, it was all up to the defense, stifling four more Towson corners and allowing no shots.  With substitutions flowing freely, the offesne was able to take some opportunistic shots, culminating in the 67th minute when freshman Amanda McAteer (King of Prussia, Pa.) shed two defenders and poked a shot into the near corner.  It was McAteer's first career goal, and set the final margin at 5-1.

For the game, the Tribe out-shot Towson 12-5, despite facing a 10-7 deficit in penalty corners.  Sophomore Cate Johnson (Charlottesville, Va.) made the start and one save to get the victory, the fourth of the season and eighth of her career.  Sophomore Meredith Savage (Virginia Beach, Va.) came on in relief in the second half, and was not tested.

William and Mary returns home for a 5:30 p.m. match-up with Richmond on Thursday, Oct. 10.  It is the only home game for the entire month of October, as the Tribe has four more road matches over the next few weekends.
