The William and Mary volleyball team opened conference play Friday night with a tough 3-0 setback to James Madison on the road. The Tribe is 5-7 overall, while the Dukes improved to 10-4 and 1-0 in the CAA.
Leading the way for the Tribe on the night was senior
Brooke Bauernfeind (Ashburn, Va.), who approached a double-double with seven kills and 10 digs. The senior also had a pair of service aces, and picked up a solo block. Junior
Shaylin O'Connell (Leesburg, Va.) started alongside Bauernfeind in the middle of the net, nad had six kills and three blocks.
Monika Stanciauskas (Wheaton, Ill.) and
Julia Swalchick (Melbourne, Fla.) had five kills each, with Stanciauskas adding a pair of blocks to her night.
Redshirt-freshman
Devin Andrews-Lyssy (Santa Rosa, Calif.) had a match-high 11 digs in the libero's role, and
Molly Krull (Raleigh, N.C.) and
Carolina Rivas (Orlando, Fla.) split time at setter, with the former approaching a double-double of her own with seven assists and eight digs in a reserve role. Rivas had 16 assists, five digs, and a block in her own right.
William and Mary's weekend road trip continues Saturday evening, with a 5 p.m. match at George Mason.
