WILLIAMSBURG - The William and Mary field hockey team put up a spirited fight Sunday afternoon at Busch Field, but was ultimately fell to No. 19 Old Dominion, 5-1. The Tribe's season comes to a close at 4-14 overall and 2-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Monrachs secured a spot in the conference tournament at 10-10 overall and 7-1 in league play.

On Senior Day, it was senior captain Kelsey Nawalinski (Downingtown, pa.) who scored her 10th career goal to even the score at 1-1 in the 29th minute. Down a goal after the Monarchs scored off a corner in the sixth minute, the Tribe battled back and worked the ball down into the offensive circle and earned a corner opportunity of its own. Jenna Cinalli (Fredericksburg, Va.) passed the ball in to sophomore Maria Caro (Martinsville, N.J.), who blast a shot from the top of the circle. Nawalinski got her stick under the shot four yards out, and deflected the ball up and over the keeper for her second goal of the year. It also gave Caro her first assist of the fall, and second of her career.

The Tribe was the more aggressive team all afternoon, an attitude that ran all the way from the forwards back to sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Frey (Virginia Beach, Va.), who made a career-high 13 saves to close out her season with 75 total stops. One of her saves was a spectacular dive at the top of the circle challenging a breakaway, early in the second half. After she had made the stop, the referees called a foul in the stickwork aftermath that gave Old Dominion a penalty stroke in the 38th minute. Frey stood tall, however, and stonewalled the attempt to mark the third penalty-stroke save of the year for W&M.
