New York, NY - Former William and Mary All-American quarterback Lang Campbell (Winchester, VA), currently of the Cleveland Browns, was named as NFL Europe's League Offensive Players of the Week for games played the first week of the season (March 18), the league announced today.
Campbell completed 16 of 26 passes (61.5 percent) for 139 yards and one touchdown to lead the Berlin Thunder to a 33-29 victory over the Amsterdam Admirals in a rematch of World Bowl XIII.
The former William and Mary star guided Berlin to touchdowns on each of its first three possessions, including a 27-yard touchdown pass to Patriots wide receiver and one-time college teammate Rich Musinski (West Pittston, PA).
"It's always nice to win the first one and set the tone for the rest of the season," said Campbell. "I thought we did a lot of good things."
Musinski and Campbell were teammates at the College for the 2003 season, in which the pair connected 63 times for 888 yards and seven touchdowns.
Musinski ended his career as the school's all-time leader in receptions (223), receiving yards (4,168) and receiving TDs (31) and was a three-time first team all-league selection and was the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2000. Campbell was a two-year starter in the Tribe's program, earning all-conference accolades in both his season. He turned in one of the finest single seasons in school history in 2004, where he threw for 3,988 yards and 30 touchdowns in leading the team to an Atlantic 10 Championship and an appearance in the national semi-finals. His performances also earned him the Sport Network's Walter Payton Award, as the Outstanding Offensive performer in Division I-AA Football.
